Come hear more of Ellie’s story at the Portsmouth Propeller Club March Dinner 3/26 “It was my first trip without my family. It was my first trip to the Caribbean. It was my first time sailing on a big boat. I was nervous and excited, and it was everything I hoped for and wanted and more. Over Christmas I was able to fly to St Croix and sail aboard the Denis Sullivan for eight days. The boat was a 137 foot three-masted wooden gaff rigged schooner that we set sail from St Croix and traveled through the adjacent islands on. Everything about it was a first for me. . . The trip was only possible because of a couple of amazing local groups that funded the tuition for me. Both PYSA and the Propeller Club of Portsmouth were able to give me scholarships that literally made the trip happen. My appreciation and just overwhelming thanks go out to both groups. It was a trip of a lifetime, one that will stay with me always – it not only deepened my love of sailing but gave me the opportunity to do it in another ocean which I hope to be able to continue throughout my life.”
